Chinese New Year 2019 Filipino Preparations Guide
I do not have Chinese blood but my sister and I have been religiously celebrating the Spring Festival since I was 18. Today, I’m going to share with you this Chinese New Year 2019 Filipino Preparations Guide based on my research from different sources.
It is quite hard to find precise guides that can be utilized by Filipinos when it comes to celebrating the 2019 Year of the Earth Pig this coming February 5 2019 because of the saturated information worldwide so I decided to make it easier for all of us Modern Pinays.

I’m going to start with the most imperative activities that are accessible to anyone.
In order to invite success, wealth, and luck, you have to make sure that you do these things a day or 2 before the Year of the Earth Pig arrives.
Cleaning
Start from top to bottom down to every crevice of furniture and figurine in your home.
Discard things that just collect dust and don’t benefit you anymore like drained batteries, wires and connectors, newspapers, magazines, and anything else that has an unjustifiable occupation in your home space.
Shower
Self-explanatory… if you haven’t been doing this, I’m not sure how you’re able to go on with your social life lol
Haircut
Most people know that haircut is symbolic of letting go and moving on. It is advised that in order to get rid of the bad juju from the past year, you have to welcome the new with a fresh haircut. You don’t necessarily have to have a new style, a trim would suffice.
Home Décor
If you have an aquarium, be sure to put 9 fishes in it in order to attract endless fortune.
It is also advisable to grow new plants and display them in a vase inside one’s home.
I recommend shopping in Binondo in order for you to know which decorations and figurines to buy because not only will you get a better deal, you’ll also get a free guide on what to buy and where to place each item in your home in order for you to attract prosperity, better health, and etc. for the coming year.
Let’s continue this Chinese New Year 2019 Filipino Preparations Guide with what you have to do when the clock strikes at 12:00. No, you don’t have to leave your glass slipper and hurry back home. You are not Cinderfuckingrella.
Wear Red with Gold Polka Dots
The section explains what you exactly have to do.
New Footwear and Underwear
Preferably… red. Put the latter on your head. Just kidding. You already know what to do with these things. Wear them!
12 Fruits
According to Feng Shui consultant Master Hanz Cua, you must prepare 12 fruits that represent the 12 months of the year.
From my experience, I’ve been doing 13 round fruits but I’m going to try this method for a change because I’m turning 30 and I’m still single and miserable.
Anyway, he added that these 12 fruits can bring luck to you this coming 2019 Year of the Earth Pig.
- Avocado
- Apple
- Banana
- Grapes
- Lemon
- Lychee
- Mango
- Orange
- Papaya
- Pineapple
- Pomelo
- Watermelon
Display these beautifully in the center of your dining table on the New Year’s Eve.
Wealth Basket
You can buy this or you can use a traditional bowl and fill it with rice grains and candy (preferably white rabbit).
This is said to rake in prosperity for the family. You can display it wherever you please. I personally don’t like displaying it because it’s very ugly so I put it on a corner where visitors don’t usually see and rats can’t reach lol.
Lucky Foods
This list includes food you can serve and eat in order to get the best of 2019.
- Tikoy, sapin-sapin, or anything sticky
- Noodles (leave them long, don’t cut to serve)
- Fish and Chicken (only served whole)
- Lechon
- Dumplings
- Cake
- Pineapple
Red Envelope / Ang Pao
According to my favorite Feng Shui Expert Madam Didit Plugio A.K.A. Pampaswerte in Facebook, you have to put the exact amount of 168 (any currency) in a red envelope or ang pao and tuck it inside your wallet.
It’s also luckier if you exchange these ang paos with the members of your family who are celebrating the 2019 Year of the Earth Pig with you.
Prayers
There are 2 ways to go about this. After eating with your family, you can light incense sticks and pray outside of your main door or you can simply write your name, birthday, wish, and address then burn it in order for the gods to hear your wishes and dreams.
Now that you’ve absorbed all the luck, you have to maintain it by following the next step of this Chinese New Year 2019 Filipino Preparations Guide…
2019 Year of the Pig Day Don’ts
Please remember that you CAN NOT do these things on the first day of the Year of the Earth Pig 2019.
- Wash clothes and hair
- Take medication
- Wear black and white clothes
- Use needles
- Use scissors and knives
- Cry
- Borrow or lend money
- Break dishes
- Eat porridge/lugaw
- Utter unlucky words such as death, malas, pangit, ugly, and etc.

Below are some additional tips that you can apply for more prosperity.
Bonus
It is advised to have a money frog facing the main door of your business in order to bring in wealth. You can also accompany it with a waving cat.
Pouring salt outside of your business’ main door will greatly help get rid of bad luck and putting a stone drowned in a glass of water will help bring in continuous abundance.
